TRIED & TESTED: THE DUTCH NEW YORK

May 6, 2011

Karianne Vermaas is a big fan of Petite Passport. Last week she went to New York with her father and together they discovered the new talk of the town: The Dutch

Most striking feature:

“The sign outside attracted my attention right away. The Dutch…would it be all about dutch treats such as bitterballen and frikadellen? Luckily it was all but that! The Dutch is an American restaurant, bar and oyster room and it is inspired by local cafés and bistros, as well as seaside shacks and roadside joints. Actually it represents the mix of cultural influences that make New York City so wonderful. The Dutch has a very comfortable atmosphere and definitely is hip without trying too hard to be the most happening place in town. Not a big surprise maybe, if you consider the fact that it’s the work of interior designers Roman & Williams (also known for their work at the Standard Hotel en the Ace Hotel). Loved the Skirt Steak Rollatini and my father enjoyed his Pecan Duck with Organic Dirty Rice very much. Breakfast, lunch and brunch are coming soon, they told us.”

TRIED & TESTED: COX COOKIES & CAKE LONDON

March 13, 2011

Most striking feature:

Cupcake heaven. I once tasted the best cupcake in NY at Magnolia Bakery, and how hard they try in the Netherlands, the glace is never thick enough. Patrick Cox, the shoe designer, opened Cox, Cookies & Cake last year. And here you will find thick glaced cupcakes. I tried the Cola Cake: a mix of chocolate and cola. With it comes popping candy. You have to start with that before enjoying the sweetness of the cupcake. I also spotted these fashion cakes. This is a not to be missed spot in Soho.

NEWSFLASH: FIRST FASHION BAKERY IN LONDON

August 15, 2010

Since The Berkeley in London served their Prêt-à-Portea and Viktor & Rolf made lovely cakes for the Mercer in Paris, fashionista’s who used to thrive to fit in a size zero, now will definitely gain some pounds. Well I quess that size zero is saying ‘goodbye, farewell’ for good because Patrick Cox is opening the first Fashion Bakery (called Cox, Cookies and Cake) ever. ‘This is definitely the reason to go to London. I’ve read this news on my new favorite London blog: Chérie City. And she said that it will be the hottest spot in Soho when it opens on september the first. So go book your tickets! (and a personal trainer for when you’re back home).

Find Cox, Cookies and Cake on Facebook.
