TRIED & TESTED: AESOP LONDON

March 16, 2011

Most striking feature:

The outside handcream and handsoap. If you’re strolling through Shoreditch, this is the place to get your hands fresh and fruity again. Inside you will find the beautiful products of Aesop.

TRIED & TESTED: ALBION CAFE LONDON

March 15, 2011

Most striking feature:

A fresh cafe next to the Boundary hotel in the middle of Shoreditch. A good place to have breakfast or lunch before or after a shopping spree. There’s a little store next to it where you can buy all kind of delicatessen. I’ve ordered an omelett with mushrooms. Very simple. There’s also a very simple water can. Outside there’s a terrace (see picture taken in the evening).

ULTIMATE LONDON SOUVENIR

March 15, 2011

With the Royal Wedding coming up, there’s a huge marketing business opening up. Buying a mug with William and Kate on it is something the typical tourist will buy. What I like is this plate from KK Outlet. Unfortunately KK Outlet was closed when we arrived there. But maybe you can score this plate? Price: 20 pounds

TRIED & TESTED: HOXTON BOUTIQUE LONDON

March 15, 2011

Most striking feature:

Hoxton Boutique is a great store where you will find fantastic fashion items. My friend bought some amazingly high high heels. And she spotted a  funny scarf of Scandinavian brand Numph. If you go here for a shopping treat you will be sure to find something original and unique.

TRIED & TESTED: SCP LONDON

March 14, 2011

Most striking feature:

If you like the Conran Shop, you have to go to SCP as well. In here you’ll find design. From furniture to lamps and from pillows to cards. I fell in love with this Rob Ryan Notebook for 9 pounds.

OPENING IN AUGUST: BOXPARK SHOREDITCH

March 10, 2011

Across Pizza East there will be a new shopping center based on the pop up store. It’s a sort of CitizenM. That designhotel chain is made out of containers. All the rooms are the same and it’s easy to build up a hotel. Boxpark will do the same for shops. You can rent a place for no longer than three months. That’s fantastic for young designers who didn’t dare to open up a real shop with a three year long contract. But I quess household names will book a shop to bring their message to the public. I think it’s a great initiative and I’m wondering how it works out. Open in August 2011.

TRIED & TESTED: PIZZA EAST LONDON

March 9, 2011

Most striking feature:

The liveliness: this place is full of energy and very busy. It’s a good place to go if you’re with a group of friends. Not for a romantic date because not all of the tables are seperated. You will find mainly long wooden tables where you sit next to other people. And because it’s fully packed (on the Thursday night we visited) it’s sometimes hard to understand eachother. The location in an old Tea Building is great, the pizza’s taste delicious, water comes in a simple bottle with the letter S on it and wine comes in sweet little carafes. Oh, and it’s not expensive at all.

TRIED & TESTED: AUBIN & WILLS LONDON

March 9, 2011

Most striking feature:

The store is hosted in an industrial building with urban bikes at the entrance, a cinema downstairs and an art gallery next door. I’m a sucker for design lamps and they are present. And I’m a sucker for stripes which are also present in a lot of their shirts, dresses and vests. Maybe this store is even more something for men who like shopping. And they also sell some homeware.

Green striped tee for men: 45 euro
Striped jumper for women: 103 euro
Keyring: 11 euro

LIKE TO HAVE: HIS and HERS MUGS

October 25, 2010

With the festive season coming, you need to be repaired. And that means: giving your loved one something really sweet. That could be a night at Verne Dreaming (most romantic b&b at my site) or if you’re embracing the new motto ‘broke is the new rich’ you better buy these two mugs. Designed by Rob Ryan: one of my favorite artists. It’s a shame to hide them in the cupboard, the need to be seen like a piece of art! 19 euro.

Buy it at SCP in Shoreditch or Notting Hill, see: www.scp.co.uk
