3 reasons to go there:

  1. With 8 friends – it’s a rental villa.
  2. If you win the lottery and want to celebrate that fact with your friends (so you fly them all in).
  3. If you like the sounds of a tree top jacuzzi with views of the ocean…

From 1300 euro per week. Check out:

I want to make some video’s of my trips. Starting with London in about 2 weeks. This is a short video I’ve made in Playa del Carmen, Mexico of Basico. This is their lovely rooftop terrace. What do you think? Good idea or not? And do you want to see me in front of the camera? Or only interior?

Check my report on Basico over here

Can we change that question in: ‘where do you want to go on a lovers trip?’ I’ve to admit that this is the most romantic spot I’ve seen during my trip to Mexico in March. Tulum consists of a strip of hotels – all directly on the beach. The more you drive to the south, the more beautiful the hotels (and the beach looks more unspoiled and the water even more clear). I didn’t stay at Be Tulum (I visited Mexico with two girls and this is more a place to go with your boyfriend), but we had dinner in their lovely restaurant. The service is superb – and the strawberry dessert we tried was delicious. The rooms were pretty, spacious and all included a plunge pool.

(I used the professional photos of where you can book this hotel, the photo at the bottom is mine)

3 reasons to stay here:

  1. Because you’ll find one of the most beautiful swimming pools in the world – on the 3rd floor. With excellent views over the city.
  2. If you like a bit of history. The building dates from 1884 – the color purple is used because it’s the color of the Bishop.
  3. If you like food: the chef of the restaurant worked for Pujol in Mexico-city.

Most striking feature:

The rooms. They’re wonderful. That’s because of the tadelakt on the walls and floor and the huge drawing on the wall. You have a little terrace for yourself (including a hammock ofcourse). The bathroom is open. And that can be a problem (especially if you’re travelling with a photographer and stylist like I did) because you want some privacy if you really need to go to the toilet. But that’s a common thing in the Riviera Maya. One tiny bit of negativity: the restaurant is awful. You will wait hours for the food to come and then it’s raw or cold. So prepare yourself and go somewhere else.

3 reasons to stay here:

  1. Because they have pink pool chairs – and that’s something every girl loves.
  2. Because the whole atmoshphere (from the outside bar to the swimming pool) feels like you’re in a filmset of the 50’s.
  3. Because every room has it own hammock. We have to say that’s quite common in Mexico, but still… love it!

Most striking feature:

Private beach with a lot of colour. When I was in Mexico everybody was talking about Al Cielo – a 20 minutes drive from Playa del Carmen. This is a hotel with only 4 rooms, a small restaurant and a cool beach. Why cool? The water is clearblue, but the daybeds are covered with colourful shine through sheets which gives you an immediate happy feeling. You can only come here if you make a reservation. Perfectly done to keep the mass away.

Most striking feature:

The furniture. It’s a mix of vintage chairs which gives this beachclub in the far north of Playa del Carmen beach a bohemian flavour. The girls who work here are all beautiful tanned (yes ofcourse, they work on the beach all day) and they wear a sort of American Apparel jumpsuit that you immediately want to have for yourself. The owner looks like Jesus (the ex of Madonna not the son of Josef and Maria) and he takes care that you enjoy the fish taco’s. Made by a chef who once works for Nobu – the famous sushi restaurant. You can sit here all day – if not your whole holiday.

Located on the northern end of Playa del Carmen beach. You can find them on Facebook.
