TRIED & TESTED: BOERDERIJLODGES TWENTE

April 24, 2011

Most striking feature:

I don’t have kids, but if I had them there is only one place to go in the Netherlands for a week of fun (and design of course) in summer: Boerderijlodges in Twente. There are several farms turned into design lodges. Kids can play outside and pretend they run a farm. They can chase chickens or cuddle with a kitten. And meanwhile the mother can relax in the designtub inside. Follow a yoga lesson. Or just read a book. Get some homemade cheese or bread at a nearby farmer and you can start preparing dinner. This sounds like an advert for starting a big and happy family doesn’t? I only want to say: skip Port Zélande and other massive resorts and start relaxing in a cool environment.

From 99 euro. Check out: www.boerderijlodges.nl

Most striking feature:

Although I don’t have kids I can get all ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ about some kids apparel. Like these Bobo Choses baby star pants. But I also spotted some cool lamps, notebooks, cards, books and other great things to buy for yourself or a friend. And I adored their creative window.

LIKE TO HAVE: UNITED STATES OF BELGIUM

December 6, 2010

My friend and stylist Kirsty Nagel spotted this cool sweater at Kayo in Antwerp:

We all love a good souvenir. But souvenirs are the most tacky things in the world (apart from the I love New York shirt). I mean: why bother to buy a Mexican hat or a Cuban sigar? We want our souvenirs to be a bit fashionable. To show our friends and say: ‘look how cool Belgium is’. The sweaters with the text United States of Belgium are doing that job. I don’t know the price, but you can buy it at Kayo: the coolest kidsstore in Antwerp.
