VIKTOR & ROLF FLYING HIGH

March 25, 2011

On my bucket list: flying Business Class to some far away destination. That better be with KLM because they teamed up with Dutch fashion duo Viktor & Rolf and now you get a fantastic amenity kit made by them. In it you’ll find a toothbrush, toothpaste, comfortable socks, eye mask, lip balm, pen and ear plugs. Oh, and there’s another extra when flying Business Class: the table ware is designed by Marcel Wanders.

TRIED & TESTED: EVERYDAY DUTCH SELFRIDGES

March 9, 2011

Most striking feature:

Selfridges is hosting Dutch design. If you hear that you’ll think of items of Marcel Wanders, Hella Jongerius and other great Dutch names. But they keep it small and simple. You will find the wallets of Keecie, chocolate of Tony Chocolony and paperwork of Jurianne Matter. The shop is a cooperation with Yksi design in Eindhoven. It’s a temporarily exhibition (till March 24).

TRIED & TESTED: PIET HEIN EEK EINDHOVEN

January 17, 2011

Most striking feature:

When you enter the Piet Hein Eek zone, you first notice his massive workplace. The place where every single bench, table or chair is produced. Cool to see all the wooden parts lying around – knowing that those parts will soon turn into a great piece of furniture. There is a store (which wasn’t open at sunday) and a restaurant. With of course some Piet Hein Eek furniture, but also some vintage pieces. I loved the wooden plate where they served our sandwich on. I loved the Aesop handsoap in the toilets (it’s about the details isn’t?) and I loved the huge bar in the middle of the restaurant made of tubes.

NEWSFLASH: HOTEL BY DROOG AMSTERDAM

May 2, 2010

I just visited the site of Droog Design (the Dutch design agency that has stores in New York and Tokyo) and I read that they have plans to open a hotel nearby their Droog at Home store in Amsterdam. So I collected some must have Droog items and did some daydreaming about the hotel. White, modern with very funny details. Oh, I’m gonna love it. I’ll keep you posted.
