TRIED & TESTED: TOWNHALL HOTEL LONDON

March 7, 2011

Most striking feature:

We all like design. But design is nothing without the little extra’s. At Townhall Hotel they understand that. A funny detail like a rubber duck, fabulous bath amenities from l’Occitane, bathrobes next to the hot heater (so when you step out of your bath you’re hugged by the warmness of the bathrobes, extra points!!), chocolates next to the bed, a daily delivered newspaper, fluffy blankets. We stayed in the smallest room (and I think it’s quite big with a bath and a seating area). Next to the hotel you will find Viajante restaurant and their bar (where we ordered some cocktails). The location of the hotel is confusing cab drivers (they don’t know where Patriot Square is, so hint them to Bethnal Green), but great for everyone who want to discover East London.

Booked by Mr and Mrs Smith for 300 euro (2 nights)

Check out the video tour of the hotel room here

TRIED & TESTED: VOLTA GHENT

February 17, 2011

Most striking feature:

Their first floor. The area where the bar is located. First of all: my friend loved the chair so much she wouldn’t get out of it anymore. Second of all: we already fantasised of living there. Turn it into a huge loft with windows overlooking the outside forest… The restaurant is a bit boring and stiff. But the wooden wardrobe is outstandingly beautiful. Volta isn’t located in the center of the city, but somewhat outside nearby a park. Oh and don’t you love the funny menu?

TRIED & TESTED: HENGELER HENGELO

January 28, 2011

Karianne Vermaas is a new contributor of Petite Passport – with a fantastic knowledge of spots in the East of the Netherlands. This is her report of the Hengeler Horeca Group:

Most striking feature:

‘The industrial elements. This former Hazemeyer factory was transformed into a tasteful lounge/restaurant and exclusive beer brewery. You can’t miss the authentic industrial look of the building, with brick walls and kettles &  pipes. It is beautifully combined with the warm, but sleek and stylish furniture. It’s hard to decide where to sit; downstairs around the bar in the cubicles, near the windows in the lounge area or at a table…or… upstairs in the stylish and very comfy chairs. Why not try them all?And while enjoying the ambiance, you will find the food isn’t disturbing your experience! A funny surprise: their delicious bread is served on a stick.’
