TO GO: NIJNTJE IN DE MODE UTRECHT

April 24, 2011

Nijntje, also known as Miffy, is born in Utrecht. There’s a Dick Bruna House dedicated to her and because of their 5th anniversary the Centraal Museum next door is hosting a huge exposition about the sweet comic hero. Several fashion designers like Jan Taminiau and Anrealage (see picture) designed a special dress for Nijntje. And you can see them all till December 31.

TRIED & TESTED: NOURISH UTRECHT

April 8, 2011

Most striking feature:

It’s green in here. From the interior (look at the cute green feet of the chairs) till the kitchen. Expect raw food, freshly squeeuzed juices and even raw cake. They’re open from breakfast till dinner. You can choose for a raw, vegetarian, fish or meat dish. Next time when I go here for lunch I will definitely choose the Soul Burger (14,50 euro). In summer they’re gonna open a Salad Bar for take out. Perfect for a day in the park.

TRIED & TESTED: PUHA UTRECHT

February 20, 2011

Most striking feature:

Puha sells stuff from young designers. I especially liked the work of Marloes Kroeze. A designer from The Hague (she made the fluor pink cuddling toy). I’ve seen pieces of Roparosa and Studio Jux (eco clothing). The location is fantastic next to the prostitutes of the Hardebollenstraat (the red light district, or better: street, in Utrecht).

TRIED & TESTED: BAKKERSWINKEL DEN HAAG

November 2, 2010

Most striking feature:

The perfect lunch-spot. Because their menu is full of delicious dishes. From chocolate cake till quiches. The location is perfect. Next to a parking lot and the fashionable Prinsenstraat is nearby. De Bakkerswinkel is a concept in the Netherlands. Piet Hein Eek takes care of the lovely interiors. My favorite is the one in Utrecht, because you sit in the warm and romantic basement. But it’s always busy overthere. The one in Amsterdam, on the Westergas, has a good terrace. In Rotterdam we’re still waiting for a Bakkerwinkel, but new is Kantine Katendrecht. An initiative by de Bakkerwinkel. I’ll keep you posted.
