3 reasons to go there:

  1. If you wanna feel that Portland atmosphere in Rotterdam. Mix a lot of tattoo’s with vintage and fashionable glasses.
  2. If you’re a man and need a haircut.
  3. If you’re a man who don’t want to see women for an hour or so: this is a women free zone.

Most striking feature:

Hotspots are like fashion. Just like bright colors are hot this season, so is cool typography at hotspots. When I got the invitation, it reminded me of the Wye River General Store in Australia or this map of London. I love it! Contain.r, a Dutch communication office did the graphic design for this newly opened deli. It’s a great addition to the Euromast itself. And it’s next to the Park, so, in summer, you can order a picknick basket in here. I tried the Crepe with apple and Nutella and it’s a real sweet treat. But the Tarte Flamblée is also a good option. It’s reasonably priced and kids are very welcome in here.

I just received a press release of Engels in my inbox. Engels is an ordinary grand café next to Rotterdam Central Station. I knew it had a rooftop terrace – with great views of the city – but I didn’t know they ‘greened’ it up. I can’t wait till the opening in May when I definitely go there for a cold drink or cocktail. And ofcourse I will keep you posted with a report. For now: sending you some spring vibes already!

3 is a crowd is a company which turns empty spaces and into a temporarily shop. Yesterday they turned a huge office into a beauty-, fashion- and design heaven. This is what caught my eye:

Rise and Shine Print (22 euro) from Stoer in Stijl.

All from Studio de Winkel – an online shop. I bought the cardboard clock for 14,95 euro.

I also like these sweet brooches which says ‘Mon Biscuit’ for 19,95 euro (from Studio de Winkel)

Urban gloves without fingers so you can still use your Iphone from Urban Nomads (25 euro)

Simple yet cool business card

Clothes of Es-teem – I bought a cool black vest for 29,90 euro. Yeah!

So keep up to date with 3 is a Crowd and you’ll be the first to know about their next pop up sale.

Daisy Kroon is a fashion designer from Rotterdam. Well that’s one thing I like, because I live there as well. But when I was introduced to her new collection I had to have it all. Simple, minimalistic and a beautiful combination of blue and brown. Inspiration came from a trip to Sweden when she was just a child. I also love the way she presented the clothes in the jungle like surroundings. Daisy Kroon is sold at Wendela van Dijk and Nen Xavier in Rotterdam and at Soepboer&Stooker in Amsterdam.

Most striking feature:

The industrial atmosphere. Apart from the Tom Dixon lamps (love it) and the modern chairs, the skeleton of the building made of massive grey concrete is still visible. And I love a combination of the two. Maybe that’s why they choose the name Blender? Or because the best bartenders in the city are working here? And they can serve you a bittersweet cocktail. If the Pornstar Martini is on the menu just like in Level I will be a regular visitor. Blender is open for cocktails and dinner, but also for their, already legendary, parties. I celebrated New Year’s 2011 here and what a party it was.

I’m a sucker for diaries. I love them all and nothing makes me happier than a few black pages to start a new story. Every journey I made is pinned down in a beautiful booklet. Bali in a Moleskine, the Australia storybook has a beautiful quote on it, Cuba in a simple HEMA notebook. But then this Midori’s travel journal caught my eye. First I have to think of a journey that fits that one: maybe Japan? Because that’s where this journal comes from. Anyway: you can buy it online and in some hotspots in the Netherlands like van Dijk in Rotterdam and  Tenue de Nimes in Amsterdam.

Price? From € 39,90

Last saturday I was discussing about the fact that Rotterdam didn’t use their city for cool restaurant concepts. And yesterday I got this e-mail telling me about the first pop up restaurant in Rotterdam. Called Big Fish. Yes, finally! It’s only this friday and saturday on a secret location. The only thing they are telling is that you have to come with your bicycle. Well that makes me pretty curious (and what if you didn’t own a bicyle like I do?)! Price: 60 euro for dinner, wine and social dinner.
